The Vinyl Institute is the only national trade association that represents all aspects of the North American PVC/vinyl industry. Its stellar performance has made it the voice of the industry, as it is recognized around the world for its exclusive commitment to PVC/vinyl’s success in the marketplace.

Since 1982, the VI has worked on behalf of its members to:

  • build awareness of the benefits PVC/vinyl products bring to society
  • correct misinformation about the health and safety of vinyl production and use
  • influence pending regulations and legislation about PVC and vinyl products
  • defend the industry and its products from unwarranted attacks
  • strengthen bonds between the vinyl industry and its customer companies and trade associations.

With the support of vinyl resin and additives suppliers and vinyl product manufacturers, The Vinyl Institute can accomplish much more than any one company.

The Vinyl Institute Represents the Entire PVC/Vinyl Industry
Every day, the VI is actively promoting the benefits of all vinyl products and materials – building and construction, packaging, electrical, medical, and others – to the customers of product suppliers such as architects, builders, retailers, product specifiers, and students, as well as consumers.

VI is also a leader in the Global Vinyl Council, which meets every year to share pertinent information with industry partners all over the world, and to distribute this information to VI members.

Advocacy and Industry Affairs
VI provides unparalleled expertise on PVC/vinyl-related issues as we speak for the PVC/vinyl industry to the public, Congress, state governments, and the media, providing balanced information and perspective.

VI works with its members, their customers, and other allies to monitor and address policy developments that come before the industry, from proposed governmental regulations and legislation, to statements and reports issued by municipalities, manufacturers, and organizations that present misleading or incorrect information and/or recommend deselection, reduction, or elimination of vinyl products.

As the VI’s office is located near the nation’s capital, VI staff and its members have easy access to the country’s regulatory agencies and political leaders.

Through Congressional Fly-ins, professional and charity events, hearings, and meetings, VI members have opportunities to address and meet with members of Congress and their key staff.

In grassroots campaigns, targeted letters to politicians and other decision-makers, and working with members, VI has successfully defeated efforts to restrict or eliminate the use of PVC and vinyl products, leveraging the resources of all vested businesses and parties. VI members also have access to a state affairs monitoring program through its affiliation with the American Chemistry Council’s Plastics Division.

Health & Safety
VI’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Committee monitors the industry’s performance in safe, environmentally responsible manufacturing practices throughout the industry. The group works with government agencies on issues of manufacturing standards-setting and compliance, and annually recognizes outstanding achievements among VI member companies for workplace safety and environmental performance.

VI conducts or sponsors research ranging from economic analyses to technical reports, fact sheets, and brochures, that are distributed to the media, member companies for their own internal and external use, and to other key audiences.

The VI provides timely industry presentations, publications, and outreach support to the vinyl-value-chain including associations representing pipe, carpet, flooring, siding, roofing, wallcoverings, packaging, and other vinyl products.

The Institute also offers accredited continuing education (CE) programs for the architecture and design community and in preparation for the next generation sponsors design competitions for the American Institute of Architecture Students.

When it comes to helping your company in this ever competitive global environment, the VI is your partner, from trade shows and conferences, to a comprehensive marketing and advertising campaign to promote the use and benefits of vinyl products. Targeted print and on-line advertisements, public relations efforts, and other promotions, all link back to the VI web site where the message is reinforced.

The VI web sites contain a wealth of resources:

www.vinylinfo.org has information on PVC and vinyl, the VI, its members, and vinyl recyclers.

www.vinylindesign.com provides information to architects, contractors, and specifiers on how to incorporate vinyl products in their building plans, and important contacts for them.

www.vinylnewsservice.net includes news on the industry, products, and innovative uses of vinyl.

www.achievegreen.net helps architects and construction specifiers learn how they can receive building credits for specifying vinyl products in their building and construction plans.

Your Support is Critical to the Industry
All of the work of The Vinyl Institute aims to promote and increase the use of vinyl resin, additives, and products, and emphasize the safety and importance of vinyl. All companies with a stake in the prosperity of the PVC and vinyl community should invest in their future by joining The Vinyl Institute.
